Well Water Dual Tank

Oxidizing filter tank + softener tank · two control valves

Well water is a different job than city water. The first tank oxidizes and traps iron, manganese and hydrogen sulfide, the cause of the smell, the orange stains and the metallic taste. The second tank softens what's left. Each tank has its own control valve.

Best for: Homes on a private well

What it fixes

  • Iron
  • Manganese
  • Hydrogen sulfide
  • Hardness
  • Metallic taste

How it works

In plain terms.

  1. Well water comes in

Everything your pressure tank sends to the house runs through the system first.

  2. Tank one oxidizes and traps

Katalox Light catalytic media turns dissolved iron, manganese and sulfur into particles, catches them along with fine sediment, and nudges low pH up.

  3. Tank two softens

High-capacity, 10% crosslinked softening resin swaps out calcium and magnesium so scale stops building up. A polishing gravel base keeps water flowing evenly through the bed.

  4. Each tank cleans itself

On a schedule set to your water, each valve backwashes its tank and sends the waste to a drain.

What it won't do

  • It doesn't disinfect. If a lab test shows bacteria in your well, add Whole-Home UV after it.
  • Very high iron or sulfur can need an extra pre-treatment step. The test tells us before we quote.
  • It doesn't lower dissolved solids much. For the cleanest drinking water, add reverse osmosis at the sink.

Maintenance

  • Keep salt in the brine tank. Check it once a month.
  • The valves keep their settings through power outages of up to 72 hours. After a longer one, glance at the displays to make sure the clock is right.
  • Have us re-test once a year so we can adjust settings as your well changes.

Whole-Home UV

Ultraviolet treatment for bacteria, no chemicals.

An ultraviolet lamp treats water as it enters the house, so bacteria can not reproduce. Nothing is added to the water. UV needs clear, low-iron water ahead of it, so it is usually paired with the well system.

Best for: Private wells, or after a boil-water notice.

Top pick for drinking water

Tankless RO

800 gallons a day, 7 stages, and no storage tank under your sink.

Compact tankless reverse osmosis with seven stages of filtration and built-in alkaline remineralization. It works to remove heavy metals, chlorine and dissolved solids, and it adds beneficial minerals back in. The coconut-carbon filter gives you a smoother, fresher taste. Its 2:1 drain ratio wastes far less water than a standard RO, and with no storage tank it frees up space under your sink.

Best for: Anyone who wants cleaner water for drinking and cooking

Bluejay Standard Whole-Home Softener + Filtration system with brine tank
Top pick for city water

Standard Whole-Home Softener + Filtration

36,000 grains. Softening and chlorine filtration in a single tank.

Takes care of the two problems most city-water homes around Gainesville and Lake City have: hard water that scales up your pipes and water heater, and chlorine you can taste in your coffee and feel on your skin and hair. One tank, one control valve, one clean install.

Best for: Most 3 to 4 bedroom homes on city water

Questions

About the Well Water Dual Tank

Why two tanks instead of one?

Iron and sulfur need a different kind of media than hardness does. Splitting them lets each tank do one job well and last longer, which matters on wells with a lot of both.

Will it get rid of the smell on the hot side too?

It removes the sulfur before water reaches the heater, which fixes most hot-side smell. If the smell comes from the heater itself, we'll check the anode rod and tell you.
