Sound familiar

You already know something's wrong.

Most people call us about one of these four things. Each one has a plain cause, and each one can be measured.
  • Orange stains in the toilet and tub

That's iron. It's dissolved in the water underground, then turns to rust the moment it meets air. It sticks to porcelain, laundry and anything your sprinklers hit.

  • Rotten-egg smell from the tap

That's hydrogen sulfide, a gas common in North Florida wells. It's usually worst on the hot side and first thing in the morning.

  • Scale on shower glass and fixtures

Our water comes up through limestone and picks up calcium and magnesium on the way. That's hardness, and it leaves white crust on everything it dries on.

  • Water heater and appliances wearing out early

The same scale builds up inside your water heater, dishwasher and washer where you can’t see it. They work harder and give out sooner.

Our systems

Matched to the water in your home

Well water and city water need different fixes, and a 1,500 sq ft house needs less than a 4,000 sq ft one. We size every system to your test results and your home, not a price sheet.

Bluejay Standard Whole-Home Softener + Filtration system with brine tank
Top pick for city water

Standard Whole-Home Softener + Filtration

36,000 grains. Softening and chlorine filtration in a single tank.

Takes care of the two problems most city-water homes around Gainesville and Lake City have: hard water that scales up your pipes and water heater, and chlorine you can taste in your coffee and feel on your skin and hair. One tank, one control valve, one clean install.

Best for: Most 3 to 4 bedroom homes on city water

Bluejay Tankless RO system
Top pick for drinking water

Tankless RO

800 gallons a day, 7 stages, and no storage tank under your sink.

Compact tankless reverse osmosis with seven stages of filtration and built-in alkaline remineralization. It works to remove heavy metals, chlorine and dissolved solids, and it adds beneficial minerals back in. The coconut-carbon filter gives you a smoother, fresher taste. Its 2:1 drain ratio wastes far less water than a standard RO, and with no storage tank it frees up space under your sink.

Best for: Anyone who wants cleaner water for drinking and cooking

Bluejay Well Water Dual Tank system with brine tank

Well Water Dual Tank

Made for iron, sulfur and that rotten-egg smell.

Well water is a different job than city water. The first tank oxidizes and traps iron, manganese and hydrogen sulfide, the cause of the smell, the orange stains and the metallic taste. The second tank softens what's left. Each tank has its own control valve.

Best for: Homes on a private well

How it works

Four steps. The first two are free.

We'd rather tell you that you don't need a system than sell you the wrong one.
  1. Step 1: We test your water at your kitchen sink

    Free

Free, about 20 minutes, and you watch every reading come up.

  2. Step 2: We explain what the numbers mean

    Free

Plain terms. What each reading is, what causes it, and whether it needs fixing.

  3. Step 3: We size a system to your water

Based on your readings, how many people live there and the space you have. You get a written quote.

  4. Step 4: We install it and test again

Clean install, then we run the same test so you see the difference in numbers.

Who you're letting in

A local company that tests before it sells.

Bluejay Water Co. started because too many North Florida homeowners were sold equipment before anyone looked at their water. We do it the other way around. The person who tests your water is the person who answers your questions, and the numbers decide what goes in.

Questions

The things people ask us.

Anything we haven't covered, just ask. We don't use a phone tree.
What does the free water test check, and how long does it take?

We check iron, manganese, hydrogen sulfide, hardness, pH and total dissolved solids right at your kitchen sink. It takes about 20 minutes and you watch every reading. You get the numbers written down whether you buy anything or not.

Why does my water smell like rotten eggs?

That's hydrogen sulfide, a gas that shows up in a lot of North Florida wells. It's usually worse on the hot side and first thing in the morning. An oxidizing filter takes it out at the point the water enters your home, so every tap is fixed at once.

What causes orange or brown stains?

Iron. Once it hits the air it turns into rust and sticks to toilets, tubs, laundry and the side of the house if your sprinklers run on well water. Anything over about 0.3 ppm will stain. The test tells us exactly how much you have so we can size the filter to it.

Do I need a softener, a filter, or both?

It depends on your water, and that's why we test first. A softener handles hardness and scale. A filter handles iron, sulfur and taste. Most private wells around here need both, which is what our dual-tank system does. Many city-water homes only need a softener with carbon.

Is a salt-free system the same as a softener?

No. A salt-free conditioner changes the hardness so it's less likely to stick as scale, but the minerals are still in the water. A softener takes them out. Salt-free can be a good fit on city water. It won't do anything for iron or sulfur, so we don't recommend it for most wells.

How long does an install take?

Most installs are done in one visit, usually part of a day. We tell you up front how long your water will be off. When we're done, we test again at the same sink so you can see the difference.

Test first. Fix it right.
